The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has awarded around 40 offshore wind energy contracts with a combined capacity of 30 GW. Majority of the contracts have been awarded for projects that are already in the pre-development phase and will be located in Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Bataan, Aurora, Batangas, Cavite and Occidental Mindoro.

The contracts were awarded to around 20 wind energy developers including CleanTech Global Renewables Incorporated, which secured the contract for works on the 1,200 MW Bulalacao Bay Offshore Wind Energy Project. Pililla AVPC Corporation will oversee work on the 1,00 MW Calavite Passage Offshore Wind Project while the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) secured a work contract for the 1,000 MW Iloilo-Guimaras Offshore Wind Power Project.

The DOE also granted contracts to the 1,024 MW Calatagan Offshore Wind Project, the 495 MW Cavite Offshore Wind Project and the 1,000 MW Calavite Passage Offshore Wind Project among others.

The Philippines has the potential to install 21 GW of offshore wind power by 2040 and output from the 40 projects will be key in realising this.
