The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has handed over a solar-assisted electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). The facility, developed under the Government Energy Management Program by the DOE and the Philippine National Oil Company Renewables Corporation (PNOC-RC), is intended to support the integration of renewable energy into the country’s EV charging network.
The EVCS is located within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and serves as a model for linking solar power with electric mobility. The site is planned to support wider EV adoption by providing solar-backed charging infrastructure in a strategic commercial and logistics hub. Nearly 1,000 EV charging stations are currently operational nationwide, supported by policies and incentives under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).
The initiative aligns with the Philippines’ broader objective of expanding clean transport infrastructure and supporting the projected growth of 6.6 million EVs by 2030. The DOE noted that the station will form a blueprint for future solar-powered EV charging projects in key locations across the country.
