The Philippines’ Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has entered into a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening competition enforcement across the country’s public transport sector. The pact is designed to improve coordination between regulators and ensure fair market conduct as the Philippines modernises and restructures its transport system.
Under the agreement, the LTFRB will align regulatory oversight with competition principles, including information sharing, joint capacity building, and closer coordination on investigations involving anti-competitive practices in public transport services. The move reflects growing recognition that regulatory reforms, including route rationalisation and fleet modernisation.
Authorities said enhanced competition enforcement will help promote efficiency, protect commuters, and create a more level playing field for transport operators. The agreement also signals a broader policy push to embed competition policy more deeply into sectoral regulation as transport demand grows and private sector participation expands.
