Philippine Geothermal Production Company Incorporated (PGPC) has announced that it plans on developing five new geothermal projects in Luzon, Philippines. The locations that have been selected for these facilities are Kalinga, Benguet, Cagayan, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur. Once operational, the five geothermal sites have potential to generate additional capacity of 250 to 400 MWe.

The projects will contribute in achieving the Government of the Philippines’ goal of increasing geothermal energy capacity by 66 MW by 2023. By 2030, the government is targeting to increase renewable energy’s share in the country’s power mix to 35 per cent and to 50 per cent by 2040.
