The Vietnam National Industry-Energy Group (Petrovietnam) breaks ground on the USD1.3 billion O Mon 4 Thermal Power Plant in Can Tho City. The facility, part of the Block B–O Mon gas-to-power project, will use combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology with a designed capacity of 1,155 MW. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in December 2028, coinciding with the delivery of offshore gas from Block B.
Once completed, O Mon 4 will raise Petrovietnam’s installed capacity to more than 9,300 MW, equivalent to about 10 per cent of Vietnam’s total power capacity. The project is expected to strengthen the national grid, enhance energy security, and support the country’s economic growth while utilising a more efficient and environmentally friendly power generation technology.
