Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) started oil production from the Banang field three months ahead of schedule. The field is a part of the Kapal, Banang, and Meranti (KBM) group of marginal fields awarded to a consortium of Coastal Energy  and Petra Energy Berhad. The oil production started from the field on July 15, 2014. Banang is the second field under the KBM risk service contract (RSC) to have attained first oil after the Kapal field came onstream in December 2013. This makes the KBM cluster, situated offshore peninsular Malaysia, the third RSC to reach oil production successfully after the Berantai field and Balai cluster. The Banang field facilities consist of one mobile offshore production unit, one storage tanker with around 600,000 barrel storage capacity, one flexible flow line, and one well bay module. The field is expected to yield an average of 6,000 barrels daily.
