Pestech International Bhd has secured a RM742.95 million contract for works on the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain project, which involves the upgrade of the 1.2km automated people mover (APM) system at the airport. The company will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Aerotrain for a period of 10 years.

Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pestech, has received a letter of award (LOA) from Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) subsidiary, for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning for the APM and related works. Bombardier Incorporated will be the subcontractor and technology partner for the project.

Works on the KLIA Aerotrain is expected to start in March 2022 and will include the replacement of the current rolling stock – Bombardier’s Innovia APM 100 with the Innovia APM 300. The new Aerotrains will be renovated in conjunction with the track system infrastructure, which is expected to increase operating efficiency at the airport.

Pestech will be responsible for the project’s funding, which is expected to cost between RM300 million and RM350 million over the course of its three years of development, with MAHB making the payment on a staggered basis across six years from the fourth year onwards in 2025.
