Indonesia’s state-owned firms PT Pertamina and PT PLN have signed an agreement to co-develop 19 geothermal energy projects with a combined capacity of 530 MW, supporting national goals of energy security and decarbonisation.

The collaboration includes resource sharing across their geothermal working areas (WKP), forming joint committees and task forces, and conducting technical and economic assessments to accelerate implementation. A heads of agreement was also signed by subsidiaries PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) and PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLNIP) to pursue Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects.

Priority projects include the Ulubelu and Lahendong Bottoming Units, with 30 MW and 15 MW capacity, respectively, contributing to PGE’s target of reaching 1 GW in 2–3 years. The initiative is part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to strengthen its renewable energy mix and economic resilience.
