Singapore’s aviation market grew by 0.75 per cent during 2014. The slow growth is largely attributed to capacity adjustments by its struggling low-cost carrier (LCC) sector. Singapore’s LCC penetration rate, which increased steadily from 2003 to the first half of 2014, declined during the second half of 2014. Passenger traffic at Changi Airport was recorded at 54.1 million during 2014 as compared to 53.7 million in 2013, an increase of 0.7 per cent. In December 2014, a total of 29,710 aircraft were handled at Changi Airport, a decline of about 3.9 per cent compared to December 2013. Further, cargo traffic was reported at 158,600 tonnes during December 2014, an increase of 1.4 per cent as compared to December 2013.
