Passenger services have commenced on the elevated section of Line 3 of Hanoi Metro. The line is operated by Hanoi Metro Company (HMC) and will be officially launched in September 2024. This project represents Alstom’s first fully integrated metro system in Vietnam, featuring advanced Urbalis 400 Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. The line, once fully completed, will span 12.5 km with 12 stations, improving connectivity for 1.6 million residents across six districts in Hanoi. The initial phase covers 8.5 km with eight elevated stations, and the system is expected to handle 23,900 passengers per hour in each direction.
In addition, a consortium of Hyundai E&C and Ghella has commenced tunnelling works on an underground section of the line. The consortium expects to complete these works within 16 months. The underground section of the line will span 4 km and cover four stations. This section is expected to be operational by December 2027.
