State Railway of Thailand (SRT) expects passenger operations to commence on the international train service connecting Bangkok, Thailand, and Vientiane, Laos in July 2024. The line is an extension of the existing Bangkok-Nong Khai route. The train will depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station in Bangkok and arrive in Vientiane.
This new service aims to boost regional tourism connectivity. One-way ticket fares from Bangkok to Vientiane are expected to start at around THB300 with a travel time of about 10 hours. A trial service between Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Thanalaeng, and Vientiane stations was completed in May 2024.
