Panasonic Asia Pacific was awarded the President’s Award for the Environment by the Singapore government for the company’s significant contribution towards helping Singapore to achieve environmental sustainability.

The company aims to become the top green innovation company in the electronics industry by its 100th anniversary in 2018. Towards this end, Panasonic has made environment protection and sustainability central to all its business activities. In fact, it has a dedicated committee that drives the creation and implementation of environmental programmes both within and beyond the organisation.

Specifically, the company has adopted environmentally friendly manufacturing processes for the development of its products. For instance, the carbon emissions of its regional manufacturing bases have fallen by over half a million tonnes as of the end of financial year 2011. Further, Panasonic Asia Pacific has been able to triple the ratio of the sales of its eco-friendly products over the last three years. Currently, eco-friendly products account for over 70 per cent of the company’s total sales in the region.

Moreover, it is a leader in green technology innovations. It has initiated Asia’s first total energy solutions pilot project for public housing at the Punggol eco-town, a neighbourhood in Singapore’s north-eastern corner. The project utilises and integrates Panasonic’s energy creation, storage, saving, and management solutions to create a green lifestyle for local residents. In July 2012, it established a Panasonic Energy Solutions Development Centre in Singapore to conduct research and development related to energy solutions for local and regional markets.
