Plans have been announced to build a new port at the Son My 1 Industrial Park in the Binh Thuan province of Vietnam. Son My Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment and Construction Company Limited (Son My Company) has submitted the proposal for the general port to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) for approval.

Construction work will be executed in two phases and is scheduled to commence commercial operations by 2026.

The port will cover more than 160 hectares and have a capacity of up to 150,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT). The port harbour will feature three general and three specialised wharfs. The general wharfs will be able to handle ships of 30,000-50,000 tonnes while specialised wharfs will be reserved for ships of 50,000-150,000 tonnes.

This project is in line with the Government of Vietnam’s master plan the seaport system for the 2021–2030 period, with a focus on 2050, under which offshore terminals as well as port areas will be built in the Binh Thuan province.
