San Miguel Corporation (SPC) has announced plans to feature carbon-neutral infrastructure at the New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulacan, Philippines by using solar energy for its construction. The airport is expected to commence commercial operations by Q1 2027 and will run on 200 MW of baseload of renewable energy (RE) comprising solar photovoltaics (PVs), wind technology and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The solar installations will increase up to 1,200 MW of energy. Additionally, the first phase of the construction will only carry over a baseload capacity of 50 MW, which will require 300 MW of solar installations along with four-hour duration energy storage.
