The second bridge linking Phnom Penh to the Chroy Changvar peninsula will be opened to traffic in December 2014, as the construction is expected to be completed by September 2014. The 719 metre long bridge would cross the Tonle Sap river and run parallel to the Cambodian–Japanese Friendship Bridge. Moreover, a new roundabout (that will replace the existing roundabout) will also be built on the east side of the river to ease the traffic flow. Construction on the $27.5 million project began in late 2011; it is funded with a loan from the Exim Bank.
