The toll road subsidiary of MPTC has shelved its plan to build a PhP 26 billion toll bridge in Cebu. The move has come due to insufficient traffic volume in Cebu. Earlier, MPTC had conducted a feasibility study for the Cebu project, which could potentially be the third bridge to connect the main island of Cebu to Mactan Island. MPTC was banking on the likelihood that population and traffic volume growth in Cebu would increase significantly with the development of the PhP 17.5 billion Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The company might revive the feasibility study later this year or early next year.
