Thai Smile Group, an electric bus operator in and around Bangkok, has deployed a mobile ticketing system on its entire fleet. Passengers can now pay fares using a quick response (QR) code generated via PromptPay, a real-time electronic payment system launched by the Bank of Thailand, as well as through digital wallets, including TrueMoney Wallet. The company also plans to deploy Visa- and Mastercard-branded bank cards as fare media. The deployment of the mobile ticketing solution has not rendered the HOP Card, a smart card, obsolete.
Thai Smile Group operates 2,350 electric buses in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and in five surrounding provinces. In H2 2024, it had an average daily ridership of 0.38 million passengers.
