Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has commenced commercial operations for the third M701JAC gas turbine at a natural gas-fired power plant in Rayong Province, Thailand. The power plant is operated as a joint venture (JV) between Gulf Energy Development PCL and Mitsui & Company.

The plant comprises two gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plants, each equipped with four gas turbine units, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, and generators. 

The completion of this phase signifies advancement towards the full operation of both GTCC power plants, with a combined total output of 5.3 GW and are further, expected to meet the electricity needs of the eastern region’s industrial and economic sectors by the end of 2024. Additionally, Mitsubishi Power has initiated operations for an M701JAC gas turbine at the 1.4 GW Hin Kong Power Company plant in Thailand, with the completion of the second unit expected in January 2025.
