Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) will continue to provide maintenance services for the Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3 (MRT-3) for an additional 26 months. The contract extension was signed on May 31, 2023, and will run until July 2025.

The new contract will expand the scope of work to include the extension of rail lines, the installation of signals to the Common Station, and the expansion of the pocket track necessary for increasing the number of railcars in a train.

MHI, along with Sumitomo Corporation, has been providing maintenance and rehabilitation services for the MRT-3 since it began operations in 2000. Over the years, the companies have increased operating speeds from 30 km/h to 60 km/h as well as the number of train cars in service
