Mitsubishi Corporation and Construcciones Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) have secured a JPY 30 billion contract from the Department of Transportation to supply 30 four-car light rail vehicles (LRVs) for LRT-1 in Manila. Mitsubishi Corporation will supply rolling stock manufactured by CAF. The equipment installed on the LRVs will adopt Japanese technology and products. The LRVs will be 106 metres long and bidirectional. They will have 16 doors on each side, capacity for 276 passengers and a maximum speed of 70 km per hour. JICA will fund the procurement under an official development assistance (ODA) loan. Delivery is expected between 2020 and 2022. Line 1 spans 20 km from Baclaran to Monumento, covering 20 stations. A 12 km long extension from Parañaque to Cavite, covering eight stations, is currently under construction.
