Mitbana Private Limited (Mitbana), a joint venture (JV) between Mitsubishi Corporation and Surbana Jurong, has partnered with Sinar Mas Land to develop smart public transportation services in Greater Jakarta’s Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) City. The plan, which will be implemented in phases beginning in 2022, intends to improve access to public amenities, increase public transportation use, improve connectivity to the Jakarta city centre, and lower BSD City’s overall carbon footprint.
The companies will also develop a new transit-oriented development (TOD) through their JV, Sinar Mitbana Mas, which will deploy smart and sustainable mobility solutions in the region. The plan is expected to benefit commuters who currently use bus and train services at the Intermoda multi-modal hub in BSD City. Demand-responsive services will be introduced as part of the JV’s plan to seamlessly connect passengers transferring from rail to Sinar Mas Land’s BSD Link bus network. Sinar Mitbana Mas will also unveil a novel mobility system that employs smart algorithms to automatically adapt bus routes in response to changes in traffic and demand patterns.
BSD City’s existing mobile application Onesmile will be integrated with the new mobility solution which will be synced with the trains’ service schedules, allowing commuters to efficiently plan their journeys, and reduce congestion to and from Central Jakarta.
A six-month mobility planning study is being conducted by Singapore-based SWAT Mobility and SMRT Corporation to analyse the connectivity of existing BSD Link services to support Sinar Mitbana Mas’ concept plan for smart transportation solutions.
