Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), together with its regional subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific, has secured an order from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) for eight two-car trains, comprising 16 cars, for the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rapid Transit (SPLRT) network. The order follows an earlier contract awarded in January 2022 to enhance the system’s transport capacity and a May 2023 order for eight additional trains.
The latest order will bring MHI’s total deliveries for the SPLRT to 33 trainsets. The Sengkang-Punggol LRT opened in 2003 and connects the Sengkang and Punggol MRT stations with surrounding residential areas. Two new trainsets entered commercial operation in July 2025, while the latest trains will support rising ridership driven by residential, commercial and institutional development in northeastern Singapore.
