Ronald Gunawan has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Indonesia-based energy company Medco Energi, succeeding Roberto Lorato. The leadership change was approved by shareholders during the company’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held on June 4, 2026.

Gunawan previously served as Medco Energi’s chief operating officer, a position he had held since November 2015. He brings more than three decades of industry experience and has previously held management roles with international energy companies including Hess, Eni, Premier Oil and VICO. He holds degrees in petroleum engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Texas A&M University.

Former chief executive Roberto Lorato will remain involved with the company as a commissioner on Medco Energi’s Board of Commissioners. The company’s Board of Directors now comprises President Director Hilmi Panigoro, Chief Executive Officer Ronald Gunawan, Chief Operating Officer Amri Siahaan, Chief Financial Officer Benny Setiawan and Chief Growth Officer Sanjeev Bansal. The appointment comes as Medco continues to advance its upstream oil and gas portfolio and pursue growth opportunities across Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian energy sector.
