Philippines’ West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services has received international recognition for its leak detection innovations. The company has won the top prize in the “Innovation in Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Network Modeling and Analysis” category at the Bentley Systems’ Be Inspired Awards.

Maynilad’s “remote leak detection through hydraulic modeling project” beat 40 entries from around the world. The project demonstrates an innovative and effective application of Bentley’s WaterGEMS technology, which has helped Maynilad to determine where it should focus its leak detection operations in Tinajeros, Malabon.

As a result of this project, Maynilad has been able to save more than $1.7 million through hydraulic network modelling and targeted leak repair, thus circumventing the costs of total pipe replacement. It also improved water pressure for more than 3,000 households in Tinajeros, while reducing water losses.

The award recognises the company’s commitment and determination to explore innovative and cost-efficient solutions for improving its water service delivery. Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.

The Be Inspired Awards showcases and recognises excellence and innovation in the design, construction, and operations of architecture and engineering in infrastructure projects around the world.
