UAE-based Masdar has partnered with Sarawak Energy and Gentari to assess the feasibility of a floating solar power plant at the Murum Hydroelectric Plant reservoir in Sarawak, Malaysia. The project leverages floating solar technology, which is advantageous in densely populated regions with limited land. A joint study will explore technical, environmental, and economic viability, with potential benefits like reduced land use, lowered water evaporation, and synergy with hydroelectric systems. This aligns with Malaysia’s renewable energy (RE) goals, aiming for 31 per cent capacity by 2025.
Masdar is marking a strategic step after a 2023 agreement with Malaysia to develop 10 GW in clean energy.
