The Department of Transportation Philippines has awarded a contract for the airport branch of the Metro Manila Subway to a joint venture between DMCI and Taisei Corporation. The contract, valued at USD270.3 million, covers construction of the section connecting the subway to Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The project forms part of the broader Metro Manila Subway, the Philippines’ first underground rail system, aimed at improving urban mobility and easing congestion in the capital region. The airport link is expected to enhance connectivity between the subway network and one of the country’s busiest transport hubs.
In parallel, the Japan International Cooperation Agency has signed an agreement to provide a fourth tranche of loan financing for the project, reinforcing Japan’s continued support for the subway’s development.
The award marks another milestone in the rollout of the Metro Manila Subway, which is expected to play a central role in modernising the Philippines’ urban transport infrastructure and strengthening multimodal connectivity across the metropolitan area.
