Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has announced plans to re-power six Sungai Perak power stations with a combined capacity of more than 650 MW. The Energy Commission (ST) has approved the RM5.8 billion Hydro Life Extension Programme for the six power stations in SSJ Sungai Perak.
As a part of the project, the 18 generating units of the six stations will be upgraded to the latest technology including turbines and transformers to improve its efficiency and lifespan. The first units will be commercially operational by 2025. Power from the stations will be supplied under a new 40-year power purchase agreement (PPA). SSJ Sungai Perak is expected to offset around 464,000 carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions annually.
