Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and Eneos Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a hydrogen supply network between Malaysia and Japan, as well as to investigate other hydrogen opportunities. The firms will collaborate on a hydrogen supply chain that comprises hydrogen manufacturing and methylcyclohexane transportation, in which hydrogen is transformed from its gaseous state to a liquid to allow for large-scale deliveries.

The two firms will also explore low carbon hydrogen production from Petronas’ petrochemical plants as well as boosting the production of green hydrogen with renewable energy (RE) in the future. Eneos has submitted funding request for the project with the Government of Japan’s Green Innovation Fund which sponsors decarbonisation initiatives.
