The Government of Malaysia have urged the government to prioritise practical improvements for daily commuters over flashy megaprojects in the upcoming Budget 2026. The investments such as shaded walkways, safe crossings, and reliable first- and last-mile connections could deliver more tangible benefits to Malaysians than multi-billion ringgit projects.

Experts also emphasised integrating new housing and commercial developments with public transport networks to reduce dependence on private vehicles. Road safety was identified as a key concern, with research showing that one motorcyclist dies every two hours in the country.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is scheduled to open in 2027, and freight operations are constrained by a limited six-hour window through KL Sentral. He recommended constructing rail bypass lines to Port Klang from the north and south to ease congestion, improve logistics efficiency, reduce road accidents, and enhance Malaysia’s economic competitiveness.
