Independent water and power producer Malakoff has commissioned a 1,000 MW coal-fired power plant, the T4 plant, in Johor. The plant has been constructed by Malakoff’s wholly owned subsidiary, Tanjung Bina Energy, at a cost of RM 6.7 billion. Power generated from the facility will be sold to Tenaga Nasional Berhad under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The plant is the first independent power producer project awarded by the Energy Commission via a competitive bidding process. The plant deploys the GE steam power system, an efficient technology solution that ensures affordable electricity with a lower environmental impact.
