State-owned Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) is targeting to deploy 50 water treatment plants that can serve up to 50,000 households in Philippines by 2022. The construction of 18 projects was completed during the first quarter of 2021. The total cost of the 50 projects is estimated to be around PHP1.5 billion and will be financed through LWUA’s PHP2 billion savings.

Water supply system rehabilitation and construction plans are in accordance with the loan agreement made with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ADB provided LWUA with a PHP3 billion loan to build treatment plants in at least 12 provinces across the country, with all projects to be completed by 2022. LWUA will also extend the loan moratorium for local water agencies to recover the revenue losses incurred through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
