South Korea’s LS Eco Energy plans to invest KRW64.9 billion (approximately USD44 million) to establish a medium-sized ultracapacitor cell production facility at its Vietnamese subsidiary, LS Cable & System Vietnam (LSCV), to supply energy storage devices for artificial intelligence (AI) data centres. The company approved a KRW35 billion capital increase in LSCV to finance approximately 54 per cent of the investment. The facility will be constructed on unused land within LSCV’s existing factory, with investment completion scheduled by the end of June 2027 and mass production expected to begin in April 2027.
The investment will support growing overseas orders for LS Materials, which owns the ultracapacitor technology. LS Eco Energy will manufacture the devices under an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) arrangement, expanding LS Materials’ production capacity beyond South Korea while diversifying its own revenue streams beyond cable manufacturing. Ultracapacitors provide high power output over short periods and are increasingly used in AI data centre power systems. LS Eco Energy aims to generate approximately 150 billion won in annual revenue from its ultracapacitor business by 2030, with further investment dependent on additional orders.
