The Philippines Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the addition of a new stop—Talaba Station—to the ongoing LRT-1 Cavite Extension project. Located in Barangay Talaba, Bacoor, Cavite, this station will be built between the planned Zapote and Niog stations. It will cost PHP3 billion, which the DOTr will fund through its own budget, without passing the expense to the line’s private operator, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC).
The newly added station is part of Phase 3 of the extension, scheduled for completion by 2030, following the opening of Phase 2 (Las Piñas and Zapote stations) in 2028. DOTr is also securing the right-of-way for the remaining sections and has resolved infrastructure conflicts in the Cavite segment, enabling smoother implementation of civil works.
Once fully operational, the extension will allow LRT-1 to carry up to 800,000 passengers daily, significantly reducing travel time between Pasay and Cavite to 25 minutes. The Talaba addition reflects the government’s push to meet rising transport demand in fast-developing southern Metro Manila areas.
