Commercial operations have started at the 1 million-tonne Thi Vai liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Vietnam. The facility, located in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, is the largest of its kind in the country. The project was developed jointly by the Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) and a joint venture (JV) comprising Samsung C&T Corporation and the Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC).
The LNG terminal will be able to handle vessels up to 100,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT). It will feature a 180,000 cu.m storage tank, a gas pipeline, and a complex operating centre, among others. The terminal capacity will be raised from 1 million tonnes of LNG annually to 3 million tonnes in a second phase. No timeline has been announced as yet.
