The Laos government is expected to complete 12 hydropower dam projects, with a total capacity of 1,950 MW, in 2019. About 80 per cent (1,570 MW) of the electricity produced by the plants will be exported to Thailand while the remaining 384.94 MW will be used for domestic consumption. The country is aiming to produce about 33.87 billion kWh of power, worth about $2 billion, in 2019. Of this, about 25,625 million kWh will be exported while the remaining is to meet domestic consumption.
