Lao Airlines is in talks with Malaysia-based Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE) to establish maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations atVientiane’sWattayInternationalAirport. SAE is involved in heavy maintenance checks on A320s from the AirAsia and Myanmar Airways International fleets. Recently, SAE has also completed its first heavy check on an ATR72-500 from Firefly, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines. Currently, France-based AEPS is handling Lao Airlines’ line maintenance. Lao Airlines sends its heavy maintenance aircraft toBangkokorVietnam, depending upon the slot availability. In addition, the airline has recently taken possession of a new aircraft hangar atWattayInternationalAirport. The hangar can accommodate one Airbus A300-600 and one ATR72 at the same time.
