Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has secured a 10-year contract to operate and maintain Manila’s Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), marking its first direct overseas operation and maintenance (O&M) project inthe Philippines. The agreement, signed with San Miguel Corporation, covers a 23 km urban railway with 14 stations between Quezon City and Bulacan, expected to commence service in 2026.
The USD105.189 million project will see KORAIL dispatching 28 specialists starting July to oversee pre-operational readiness, followed by 170 more experts over the contract period to support control systems, operations, and rolling stock maintenance. The effort aims to help San Miguel develop autonomous railway management capabilities. KORAIL’s O&M responsibilities span system operations, testing, maintenance procurement, and IT system construction.
This move positions KORAIL to participate in further projects, including the South-North Commuter Railway and Urban Lines 1–3. It adds to KORAIL’s expanding global portfolio, now including 15 projects across seven countries, and follows notable successes in Uzbekistan and Morocco.
