Koloma has been awarded exclusive rights by the Government of the Philippines to explore for natural hydrogen in western Zambales Province under Service Contract 92. The award expands the company’s exploration portfolio in the country, following two service contracts granted in Central Luzon in October 2025 as part of the world’s first competitive bid round for natural hydrogen exploration. With the addition of the new contract, Koloma’s three service contracts now cover more than 1,600 square miles (4,100 square kilometres) across the Philippines.
Koloma has already commenced exploration activities under its two Central Luzon contracts. The company stated that the Philippines possesses some of the world’s best-documented natural hydrogen data, making it a promising location for exploration. If commercially viable natural hydrogen resources are discovered, they could provide the country with a domestic, zero-emission energy source while supporting electricity generation, industrial applications and agriculture.
The Department of Energy said the expanded exploration programme forms part of the country’s strategy to strengthen indigenous energy resources and improve long-term energy security. Koloma, which operates natural hydrogen exploration projects across four continents, will leverage its proprietary geological datasets, advanced exploration technologies and specialist geoscience expertise to support the programme in the Philippines.
