The Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) has granted Keppel Midgard Holdings Private Limited (KMH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation (Keppel T&T), a Facilities-Based Operator (FBO) licence. The FBO permit will enable KMH to own, manage, and run telecom facilities in Singapore and also provide telecom services in connection with Keppel T&T’s Bifrost Cable System, which it is developing with Facebook and Telin.

The Bifrost Cable System will span over 15,000 km and will be the world’s first subsea cable system that will link Singapore to North America through Indonesia. It will connect other ASEAN countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Guam as well. It will improve the connectivity of cloud and network operators, data centres, over-the-top (OTT) providers, customers, corporations, and governments by providing efficient pricing and power resilience. It is expected to be completed in 2024.
