Keppel FELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore and Marine (Keppel O&M), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation to develop ammonia fuel operations in Singapore. The companies will explore the feasibility and execution of ammonia fuel applications as well as work on the use of ammonia bunkering in Singapore.

Sumitomo and Keppel FELS will work on the construction of an ammonia bunkering vessel in partnership with appropriate authorities, with the goal of supporting zero-carbon shipping. The companies will also collaborate to improve Singapore’s ammonia value chain.

Additionally, the firms will explore the feasibility of using renewable energy (RE), such as ammonia, for offshore power generation in Singapore. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in the mid-2020s.
