The Ministry of Works (KKR) of Malaysia has announced that the Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Keningau-Tenom bridge is expected to be opened for passenger traffic in 2024. The new bridge will replace the old Jambatan Sungai Liau bridge in Keningau that had collapsed due to heavy rain.
The steel girder bridge will be able to accommodate bigger and heavier vehicles. The Government of Malaysia has approved a budget of RM7.2 million for the construction of the 30-metre bridge.
While the construction is on-going, Jambatan Bailey will be used as an alternative route between Keningau and Tenom districts.
