PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) is planning to retire 10 trains on the KAI Commuter line in Jakarta in 2023. The agency is also planning to retire an additional 19 train cars by the end of 2024. Existing rail cars are nearly two decades old and are unable to accommodate the increase in passenger demand in recent years. KCI is planning to import the news vehicles from Japan, although the proposal is yet to be accepted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Rolling stock of the Commuter Line comprises 106 rail cars, capable of transporting around 1.2 million passengers daily.
