JTC Corporation (JTC) has completed the Jurong Island Circular Economy (Jice) study to boost sustainability and circular economy on the island in Singapore. The two-year study was in line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The Jice study analysed data on energy, water and chemical waste from 51 companies located on the Jurong Island, to identify potential synergies that can minimise resource use at the system level.

Two innovation calls for sustainability solutions have also been issued by JTC. The first, the Jurong Island Innovation Challenge, will award up to SGD2 million in grants to start-ups and small and medium-sized businesses to promote the creation of sustainability and circularity solutions. The Jurong Island Renewable Energy Request-for-Proposals (RfPs), the second innovation call, will be launched in October 2021. This will concentrate on test-bedding novel energy solutions, including renewable energy (RE) and energy storage devices, in order to minimise the island’s carbon impact.
