The Government of Johor Baru announced plans for a light rail transit (LRT) system to reduce congestion during peak hours in Malaysia. The line will span from Johor Bahru, Pasir Gudang City, Iskandar Puteri City and Kulai Municipal Council. The LRT will also support the increasing passenger demand from the Johor Bahru-Singapore Link Rapid Transit System (RTS) by integrating the transportation system in the city centre.

In early August 2023, the government was also looking to set up a special committee to oversee the construction of the LRT system in the state.

Once RTS is operational in 2027, the expected ridership will increase to 10,000 passengers every hour.

Moreover, the government is also planning to improve parking services in appropriate locations which will be in addition to providing the intra-city feeder bus service to facilitate movement.
