JICA has signed a loan agreement worth JPY 9.22 billion with Cambodia’s state-owned power company Electricite Du Cambodge for the implementation of the Phnom Penh City Transmission and Distribution System Expansion Project – Phase II. The project will increase the number of substations and expand the transmission and distribution (T&D) network in Phnom Penh to stabilise power supply in the metropolitan region. The loan funds will be allocated to public works required to construct the substations and expand the T&D system, for equipment procurement, and for consulting services (basic design work, detailed design work, bidding assistance and construction supervision). The work on the project is expected to be completed by June 2021.
