PT Mass Rapid Transit (PT MRT) Jakarta has awarded an IDR4.6 trillion contract to a joint venture (JV) of Japan-based Sumitomo Mitsui Construction and Indonesia-based PT Hutama Karya to build the CP203 segment of phase 2 of Jakarta’s first metro line.

The CP203 segment includes the construction of a 1.4 km tunnel connecting Mangga Besar and Kota and the construction of Kota and the Glodok stations at the line’s northern end. This section covers multiple buildings of cultural value that will affect the design and construction process. Construction work for the project is expected to begin in September 2021 and be finished in August 2027.

Overall, phase 2 will cover 11.8 km and include nine stations. Shimizu and Adhi Karya were awarded the contract to develop the first portion of phase 2 in February 2020.
