Italian-Thai Development, a Thailand-based construction firm, is planning to construct an LNG import terminal at the Dawei industrial zone in Myanmar, which is part of the $1.7 billion Dawei project (Phase I), at an investment of $500 million. The LNG terminal, having an annual capacity of 6 million tonnes, will be backed by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. Phase I of the Dawei project also includes a 450 MW gas-fired power plant, a 27 square km industrial estate, and a 138 km road from Dawei to Thailand for which a concession agreement has been signed by Italian-Thai Development and its partners with the Dawei special economic zone management committee.
