Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and Inligo Networks have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-develop a high-capacity submarine fibre optic telecommunications cable system connecting Indonesia, Singapore, Guam, United States and Australia. The new subsea cable system is called the Inligo Networks Asia Connect Cable System (ACC-1).
Under the terms of the MoU, the companies will develop a low-latency data network through fibre optic cables. The ACC-1 will provide network power of up to 128 Tbps, allowing Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison to provide a broader network across eastern Indonesia while also increasing network capacity for B2C and B2B services.
This move is in line with the Government of Indonesia’s aim at boosting digital transformation and achieving Indonesia Merdeka 4G Signal by the end of 2022. Under this programme, the government is targeting extending 4G coverage throughout the whole of Indonesia, while also expanding its 5G network.
