The Government of Indonesia has unveiled plans to develop a 194 km Green Hydrogen Corridor linking Jakarta, Karawang and Patimban as part of its strategy to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and strengthen national energy security. The initiative was announced during the 2026 Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) and is designed to establish an integrated hydrogen supply chain connecting green hydrogen production plants, hydrogen refuelling stations, industrial zones, logistics hubs, ports and end users. The corridor will be developed in phases, with 12 potential sites identified following technical, economic and logistical assessments.

The first phase will focus on deploying on-site hydrogen refuelling stations equipped with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers, each capable of producing up to 100 kg of green hydrogen per day. State-owned utility PT PLN has already commissioned a Green Hydrogen Plant and a hydrogen refuelling station at Muara Karang, while additional refuelling stations are being developed in Senayan and Duren Tiga. PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia is constructing a hydrogen refuelling station in Karawang to support hydrogen-powered vehicle trials, while Patimban Greenport and Toyota Tsusho are collaborating under the Eastern GX Corridor initiative to integrate sustainable port logistics into the project. The launch also included the introduction of a Hydrogen Diesel Dual Fuel (H2 DDF) pilot bus to support clean transportation initiatives.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) described the Green Hydrogen Corridor as the foundation for a future national hydrogen network linking clean energy production centres with industrial clusters, ports and economic growth areas. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the development of a domestic hydrogen ecosystem would improve energy security, promote industrial development and support Indonesia’s long-term decarbonisation goals amid global energy market uncertainties.
