Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, PLN is likely to finish the work on the 275 kV line associated with the Java-Sumatra interconnection project by 2017. The work on the 500 kV line associated with the interconnection is expected to be completed by 2019. The project involves the construction of a 550 km long high voltage direct current interconnection, connecting the two islands of Sumatra and Java, with a capacity to transfer 3,000 MW of electricity. In addition, 32 km of 500 kV AC lines in Java, and 254 km of 500 kV AC lines and 40 km of 275 kV AC lines in Sumatra will be constructed.
